Who we are:
The HBIA is the voice of Downtown Port Hope’s business community, dedicated to advancing and showcasing the Heritage Business District through investment, advocacy, and beautification efforts. Originally founded in 1977 as the Port Hope Business Improvement Area, it formally adopted the name Heritage Business Improvement Area in February 1990.
Today, the HBIA represents over 140 businesses and properties within the Downtown Heritage District(s), actively supported by the Municipality of Port Hope. It promotes the district as a premier destination for shopping, business, and entertainment. The HBIA oversees key heritage conservation areas including the Walton Street Heritage Conservation District (established August 1998) and the JOQS Heritage District (approved June 2008), ensuring their preservation and enhancement for the community’s benefit.
